North Tyneside company Shoreland Access are proud to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at helping the recently laid off workforce at the SSI Steel plant in Redcar.

Shoreland Access themselves were directly affected by the recent closure of SSI as they were responsible for the non-destructive testing (NDT) of the Blast Furnace, the largest of its kind anywhere in Europe.

They now intend to offer a lifeline to hundreds of their former colleagues and offer them the chance to gain industry qualifications in NDT from their state of the art training centre, located beside the Tyne Tunnel.

NDT or Non-Destructive Testing is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.

Jack Miles, Shoreland Access Director and a contractor based on the SSI plant for the last two years explains more about the initiative saying, “The closure of the plant in Redcar has serious ramifications not only for its former employees but for their families too.

Myself and my fellow Directors at Shoreland Access have decided to offer any former employee of the plant to study at our training facility on North Tyneside at a discounted rate of 30%. This discount will apply to any course in our training portfolio.

We want to help our former colleagues to get back into employment as soon as possible and we would like to make our PCN graded courses available to them for an indefinite period of time.”
